Underground Update

Underground Update as of May 1, 2021

At the February 23rd City of Newport Beach City Council meeting, the underground utility petition submitted by Island proponents/property owners were approved with 60+ percent yes signatures. This was the first step in a process to underground the remainder of the Island. The project proponents appreciate your interest in the project. The remainder of the process will be completed by the City of Newport Beach following the State guidelines for the formation of Assessment Districts.

Next, the City Assessment Engineer will prepare an Engineer's Report. This report will document the final cost, which will be guaranteed by the City. Property Owner Ballots are then prepared by the City with the assessment amount and sent to each owner as registered with the County of Orange at that time. Each property owner will have the opportunity to vote for or against formation of the district. This process will take place within the next few months or later. We will be updating our website with more information soon.
